When considering how to design kitchen-related websites, it is important to reference data from highly valued resources, such as Houzz.com or RICKI – The Kitchen Think Tank.
RICKI – The Kitchen Think Tank conducts studies among 1,000 U.S. homeowners to explore kitchen attitudes and activities, kitchen design preferences, kitchen remodeling activities, and sources used for remodeling ideas. For this study, RICKI asked respondents who spent $2,500 or more on a kitchen remodel or improvement in the past 12 months the following question:
When visiting a kitchen-related website, which of these did you do? The results are presented in the graph below.
Most consumers use kitchen related websites to get product information, read product reviews, watch videos about products, and get ideas or inspiration. Kitchen cabinet, appliance, and accessory manufacturers and distributers should take note to the findings of this study to ensure that their website offers the experience that homeowners are seeking.
If you are a cabinet manufacturer, for example, you should include the door styles available for your cabinetry. Along with the door styles, include detailed information about each style and customer reviews. Also, be sure to showcase any completed projects featuring your cabinetry on your website. Include information about the door style, cabinet style and finish color to provide homeowners with inspiration.
Watching videos, visiting a company’s social media site and downloading apps have increased significantly since 2014. Currently at 31%, visiting a company’s social media site is bound to continue to increase as we move further into the digital age and as millennials begin thinking about designing and remodeling their homes. Companies in the kitchen and bath industry should include links to their social media sites and profiles on their website. Some websites include buttons as links, while others include a live feed.
