How the location of your business impacts your search terms and website visibility
There are many factors that influence how your company website appears on major search engines like Google and Bing. So many in fact, it can be mind boggling and difficult to articulate to the layman. The starting point is to consider what people enter as a search term (keyword) for your product or business to find you. People may search for books, glasses or services like shoe repair. Taken a step further, they will often look for entities close to them in proximity, Allentown books, Lehigh Valley glasses or Bethlehem shoe repair. You can develop content on your website containing the “keywords” or pay an SEO expert to help you show up on the first page of the search results to garner the sale.
If you are selecting a location to open a business in this digital age, the “location, location, location” mantra means more now than ever. Not only does the physical location affect your foot traffic, the address of your local business influences your Google search rank in a variety of ways. One major element is the city location of your business (or targeted cities for that matter) when combined with the search term for your product or service.
And if your on-line business sells products like books, glasses or tarot cards never ever ever open your store in Reading, PA. It is better to choose the Lehigh Valley, or even Wyomissing for that matter. Not only does Reading PA have the unwelcome distinction of being the poorest city in the country, Google robots have a hard time distinguishing the proper noun from the noun. It’s a nail in the coffin for a website trying to break the first page ranks in that town, you’re automatically in the national big leagues fighting for placement with search terms that are utterly common.
“Reading books” results in a staggering 727 million website results.
“Lehigh Valley Books” results in 1 million website results.
Other common search term examples include “Reading glasses”, “Reading Tarot Cards”, you get the drift.
Lehigh Valley SEO is much easier, less time consuming and if you open shop in the Neighborhood Improvement Zone (NIZ) sector you reap the benefits of a hefty tax break. The Lehigh Valley is home to the Phantoms and Steelhawks, a major draw for the food services industries to enter there. And the closer to City Center, the better your ranking result.
So when selecting a location for your new business, consider the location in reality and virtually as well. Winston Churchill once said “Never, ever ever ever ever give up.” But he never had a bookstore in Reading PA, and he never met the Goliath Google.
