Snapchat introduced a new feature: Snapchat Memories. This is said to be the social network’s most complex and transformative feature.
When you take a picture or a video on Snapchat, you will now have the option to save it to “Memories.”
Memories enables Snapchat users to save their snaps and stories on Snapchat, rather than having to save it to their phone’s camera roll. Snapchat is making the camera roll come alive with this new feature.
All saved snaps and stories will appear in the Memories tab. This new feature offers a searchable camera roll within the app itself. You can search for a particular memory by hundreds of keywords that Snapchat will identify in the captions, emojis, stickers, dates, or locations in your snaps. Memories searches can also identify objects in your content, from cats to sunsets, surfing, or Hawaii.
Memories allows users to post old, saved content to their Stories. It also lets them creatively edit, re-share, and save them to a password-protected "My Eyes Only" section.
Businesses should take advantage of this new marketing feature. Snapchat Memories allows businesses to re-share content from the past, enabling their marketing teams to reduce the amount of time put into snaps and stories when posting about similar content. It also allows new marketing initiatives to be set in place like #throwbackthursday or #flashbackfriday.
Memories eliminates the issue of lost photographs or videos when a phone becomes unexpectedly broken, lost, or stolen and that valued content is not backed up on the iCloud or another device. Snapchat saves Memories to the Google App Engine cloud, and can be recovered when users log in from their new phone.
Memories is private and can only be seen by the user, unless the content is re-shared as a snap or story.
